We are a non-profit, international English-speaking Montessori kindergarten and crèche for 1 to 6 year-olds in Vienna, Austria.

The Children’s House is located at Arbeiterstrandbadstrasse 130, directly opposite the U1 station Alte Donau. Our beautiful, light-filled school building with a big play garden as well as a wonderful working garden is close to the Donaupark and just down the road from the United Nations – Vienna International Centre.

Head teacher, Katharine Wolschner founded The Children’s House in 1992 with the help of her husband Herbert and since then the kindergarten has grown and flourished and has included a crèche since 2011. Now their three children, Daniel, Anna and Rebecca also have leading roles and together with their team of international teachers they are committed to providing the best Montessori start in life to children from all around the world.

We offer a Montessori crèche for 1 to 2,5 year olds where the children can grow and develop in a nurturing environment prepared for their needs.

I am British but was born and grew up in Hong Kong. I have been living in Austria for almost 50 years and founded The Children’s House in 1992. I have an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Casa dei Bambini Diploma and a London Montessori Centre Nursery Teacher Diploma as well as a B.A. in German and French.

There are a lot of kindergartens that claim to be Montessori-inspired but only at the Children’s House Montessori principles are fully implemented. The children who were lucky to spend time in this creative and nurturing environment makes me feel hopeful for the future. Our girls feel safe and empowered to try new things and develop their skills. Most importantly, they are given opportunities to appreciate the diverse cultures surrounding them. Children’s House is definitely the best kindergarten in Vienna and one of the best in the world.
